Marden House Concerts
Sundays at 3pm
29th March 2026 at 3pm Ewan Millar (oboe) & Tomos Boyles (piano)
This concert will be a celebration of music for oboe and piano played by two outstanding young performers. In 2020, Ewan won the woodwind final of BBC Young Musician of the Year, advancing to the Grand Final. Of his performance, the Guardian commented: ‘exemplary, a richly shaded account.’ Since the competition, he has been performing as a soloist in recitals around the UK and playing with leading orchestras and ensembles. Rising Welsh star Tomos Boyles is also rapidly carving out a career as a young and exciting concert pianist, described as possessing a ‘romantic flair and passion that only comes from intense involvement’ (Carol Nixon, LMC). They will be playing Ravel, Barber, Boulanger and Schumann.

A little history. As one of the oldest buildings in Calne Marden House was home to the Wharfinger who handled traffic on the Wilts and Berks Canal, which terminated here. Local people raised funds and obtained grants to renovate the building and convert it to a community and arts centre, the then HRH Prince Charles, now King Charles 111 gave his support
by visiting in 1988 (see the plaque on the front of the building), and the centre was opened in 1990.
